 note = {This paper examines how various social factors influence junior high school students' abilities to adapt to the institutional demands of their schools. Recent data collected from 1,097 junior high school students in Okinawa Prefecture are presented and analyzed. Categorical regression analysis supports the following observations: (a) bullying constrains students' abilities to adapt fully to school life; (b) the existence of strict rules and regulations significantly constrains students from adapting to school life; and (c) the existence of a sympathetic teacher promotes students' abilities to adapt to school life.},
