Currently, this field is not incorporated into the school curriculum as a proper subject, so it is addressed during class time set aside for integrated study, which comprises numerous topics and materials, or during activities that students participate in as part of moral education. Setting aside the question of whether or not“education for international understanding”should be a proper course of study in the school curriculum, it is doubtful that anyone would argue that international understanding is not important for Japan given the country’s current relationships with the rest of the world.
