| 内容記述 | This review covers Okinawa Manga from 1832 to 1945. This review traces the origin of Okinawa Manga in Katsushika Hokusai's "Ryukyu Hakkei (Eight views of the Ryukyu Islands)." Also reviewed are satirical drawings of Ryukyu concerning the question of where Ryukyu fits in relation to China and Japan during the early years of Meiji Era. Moreover, satirical drawings published in 1901 and 1902 are examined from the Ryukyu Shinpo, the first commercial newspaper in Okinawa. Also, included are reviews of the works of Hekoten Shimokawa, a native of Ryukyu (known today as Okinawa), who became famous as a manga artist in Tokyo. Discovered was a series of 4-frame manga published in 1912 in the Ryukyu Asahi Shimbun. Lastly, discussed is anti-Japanese propaganda featured as manga advertisements in the Ryukyu Shuho during wartime. | |||||
